GLITCH Coffee KENYA Kiambu Handege AA
Handage Coffee Factory, nestled in the fertile hills of Kiambu County, Kenya, is one of the country's leading coffee processing plants, operated by the renowned Riitho Cooperative Society.
At an altitude of 1700-1800 meters, Handage is surrounded by rich, red volcanic soil, which provides ideal conditions for the slow maturation of coffee cherries, allowing them to develop bright acidity and complex flavors.
The name Handage originates from the Swahili word "Ndege" (meaning "large bird"). The helicopters that frequently took off and landed at the former helipad in the area also became its symbol.
After being picked and sorted, the coffee cherries are carefully de-pulped and fermented for 12-16 hours. Afterward, they are washed with water from a nearby river and rainwater. Finally, the coffee beans are slowly dried on African drying beds for 14-20 days, during which direct sunlight and temperature are strictly controlled to maximize the preservation of the beans' natural flavors.
Handage coffee boasts a vibrant, mellow acidity reminiscent of grapefruit and tomato, with a distinct sweetness. It embodies the essence of Kenyan coffee and continues to attract roasters worldwide.
