LIGHT UP COFFEE BUENA VISTA - COLOMBIA (SWEET)
Introducing Astrid Medina, manager of Buena Vista Farms. Her husband is Raul Antonio Duran. The farm is located in the village of San Miguel, Planadas City, Tolima Province, at an altitude of 1,816m. Established in 2005, Buena Vista has a vast land of 15 hectares and grows a variety of varieties, including Caturra, Colombia, Castillo, Geisha, Pink Wave Pink Bourbon, Tavi and Papyo.
After Astrid's father was brutally murdered in 2006, she inherited a 3.5-hectare farm. Gradually, he bought the land owned by his brothers and now owns the entire 15-hectare farm. At Buena Vista, we produce washed coffee with great care. At this farm, cherries are picked when fully ripe and then sent to a sorting table, where only the highest quality coffee beans are selected. The beans are then aged in cherries for 24 hours to remove the pulp and dried and fermented in tanks for an additional 24 hours. Then wash 3 times and screen out floating matter. It was transported to a drying rack on high ground. Drying time is 15-20 days. It depends on the weather.
The farm has two harvest seasons. Twice from April to June and October to December. Astrid and Raoul are proud of a sustainable business model that allows them to make a living and pay their workers fairly.
Astrid won the 2016 Cup of Excellence.
