LIGHT UP COFFEE ACACIA HILLS KENT - TANZANIA (SOFT)
The fruity aroma of apples and oranges is complemented by the freshness of orange peel. The chewy and sweet taste of the cane sugar is reminiscent of candy, with a lingering aroma of rooibos tea.
Leon's grandparents were immigrants from Greece who came to Tanzania around 1900 and made a living growing coffee. Leon is third generation. The family's home is located on the outskirts of Arusha, close to Kilimanjaro International Airport. A generation ago, coffee had been grown on farms around the area, but the land's low altitude was not suitable for producing high-quality coffee. Leon learned about the concept of specialty coffee in the 2000s and began looking for land that could produce higher quality coffee.
We chose Ordiani as the location for our new farm for two reasons. The first one is, after all my business partner Mark has tried Among Tanzanian coffees, he thinks Oldiani’s coffee tastes best. Secondly, I heard a researcher say that the soil in Ordiani is perfect for growing coffee.
"The past and the present, Very little coffee produced in Tanzania is consumed domestically, and most is commercial coffee, which has become increasingly difficult to produce as international coffee prices have fallen. "It was inevitable that we would move to specialty coffee," Leon said.
People involved in coffee production are happy, and so are the people around them. The presence of a businessman who could bring such an ideal enterprise to life would transform the entire Ordiani region. For the specialty coffee industry where sustainable development will become a major topic in the future, Leon’s practice will be an extremely valuable teaching material.
