Mel Coffee KENYA Thunguri AA - Light
Thunguri Coffee Factory is located at the junction of Kirinyaga and Nyeri districts, close to Karatina town. Thunguri means "wet mill" or "factory" in Kenyan. It belongs to the Kibirigi Producers Association, founded in 1953, and consists of eight other coffee factories outside Thunguri: Lagati, Ngguini, Mukangu, Kiangai, Kibingoti, Thunguri, Kianjege and Cema. The current membership is 6,888, including 4,861 women and 2,027 men. The total number of coffee trees in the Kibirigi Growers Association is 1,722,000, and the association is governed by nine elected officials. At the Thunguri Coffee Factory, carefully selected hand-picked crops are picked just in time and the cherries are transported to the wet grinder on the day of harvest. In the wet mill, cherries are sorted before pulping, separating red ripe cherries from unripe, overripe and foreign matter. The treated water used in the refining process comes from the nearby Kangocho River, and we are working to purify the wastewater generated during the refining process and return it to the soil. After careful fermentation and cleaning in traditional fermentation tanks, the wine is carefully dried in the sun on African beds.
