Kaguyu Factory is located in Kirinyaga County, considered the heartland of Kenyan coffee production. Situated south of Mount Kenya, this factory, along with the adjacent Nyeri County to its east, is renowned for producing exceptionally high-quality coffee and is one of Kenya's most crucial core production areas. Kaguyu Factory is operated by a farmer cooperative with approximately 70 years of history, bringing together around 850 small-scale coffee farmers.
With recent changes in Kenya's cultivation trends, in addition to the traditional SL varieties (SL28, SL34), varieties such as Batian and Ruiru 11 are also becoming increasingly popular and widely cultivated in the region. The primary purpose of introducing new varieties is to stabilize yields and combat pests and diseases. A common local practice is to retain traditional SL varieties with deep root systems, stable growth, and strong disease resistance as "rootstock," then graft disease and pest-resistant Batian or Ruiru 11 "scions" onto them.
At the factory, coffee cherries collected from nearby farmers are processed using the washing method. The river adjacent to the factory provides an abundant supply of high-quality water, and the factory is also equipped with a comprehensive wastewater purification system to ensure that treated wastewater is properly filtered and purified.
