Santa Rosa Farm is located in the far northwest of El Salvador, near the island of La Palma and close to the border with Honduras, on the slopes of El Pital, the highest peak in El Salvador.
Jorge Raul Rivera Sr. started growing coffee in the area in 1979. At the time, El Salvador was in the midst of a civil war and a lot of land was being sold at a discount, and Mr. Raúl took advantage of this to buy some land. After the war, when El Salvador was calm again, we purchased the land that would become Finca Santa Rosa, and using government subsidies for post-war reconstruction, we began growing pine trees. Initially, it took 10 years for the wood to grow to a level that could be exported, so Santa Rosa began growing pacamara (a species that originated in El Salvador) on vacant land to produce coffee. The land was left untouched for a long time due to the civil war, which helped Pacamara grow. As of now, most of the land is planted with Pacamara, except for seedlings that are being planted on a trial basis.
Mr. Raul is also a representative of the Chalatenango Regional Producers Association, providing process support and agricultural guidance to neighboring farmers and actively contributing to the local community. This year I finished it with a medium roast again, but the temperature at the end of the roast was a bit lower than last year, so the red fruit flavors were more pronounced.
