SOT Coffee Roaster KENYA Kiamwangi AA
Kamwangi is a coffee washing station (known as a "factory" in Kenya) located in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. It was established in 1982 and is one of three facilities operated by the Singariama Coffee Cooperative (FCS).
Kamwangi’s coffee cherries come from about 1,500 cooperative members (1,100 men and 400 women) who grow coffee trees on nearby farms at an altitude of 1,550-1,650 meters. The farmers who supply Kamwangi with coffee own an average of 3-5 hectares of land (about 1,500-2,000 trees) and in addition to coffee they also grow vegetables, bananas, tea, corn, beans and napi grass.
After the coffee cherries are picked, they are transported to Kamwangi for processing and drying under the supervision of Mr. Edwin Givochi. The dried coffee is transported to Nairobi and sold directly or through the auction system. In addition to Edwin, Kamwangi employs 8 full-time employees and hires an additional 10 employees during the production season. The factory is located on the slopes of Kenya, 1,610 meters above sea level. The factory is adjacent to the Nayamindi River, so fresh and clean water can be used to process the coffee, ensuring the high quality of the coffee.
Kiamwangi AA is an AA grade coffee with a rich fruity aroma and bright, clean acidity. The ground coffee has a tropical pineapple aroma with a hint of pie filling, such as strawberries stewed in honey. After brewing, the coffee has a fragrant kernel and dried fruit aroma, with black currant notes complementing the wine-like fruity aroma.
