Kii Coffee Factory is located in Kirinyaga, central Kenya.
It was established in 1968 and governs the villages of Gatanjuri, Kibae, Kianduma and Kiandumbe. Our factory belongs to the Runget Producers Association and has the highest output among other factories of this association.
Currently, there are 1,300 farmers in the association (actually about 1,000 active farmers). Our factory is located at an altitude of approximately 1,619m, and the soil in this area is red and extremely fertile. The twice-annual rainy season brings about 1,400 mm of rainfall and ideal temperatures average 13-24°C. Therefore, there are usually two harvest seasons in April and October, where SL28 and SL34 account for 99% of the total production, and 1% of Ruiru11 is planted (the purchased part starts harvesting in October, which will be the main crop).
They are also highly environmentally conscious, installing drainage pits, using soil layers to filter wastewater and working to return it to the soil, and encouraging member farmers to plant trees.
During the planting process, we provide technical advice on weeding, pruning, irrigation, fertilization, etc. in accordance with the guidelines through the Ministry of Agriculture’s farmer training program and on-site inspections.
The surrounding area is densely populated and has little wildlife, but the environment is protected by the local community. As part of our welfare efforts, we also offer services such as investing in farm inputs and paying wages in advance to keep coffee farmers motivated.
